Autumn is a time of transition. When we go from the heat of summer to the cold of winter.
This is the time for preparing your home for the coming months of darkness, get out the sweaters, thick blankets and throws. Invest in candles, you will be using them a lot more now that the nights are becoming shorter and darker.
If you have children, think about how you will spend the days indoors, stock up on board games, paints and drawing materials. Items that can create fun when gathered with family.
Warm Drinks and Food
The Autumn season is also when we start drinking more hot drinks, I love to set up a little "drinks station" in the kitchen for coffee's, hot chocolates and tea. Try having a little jar full of marshmallows for hot chocolate and syrups for coffees.
Add a little cup holder for hand crafted mugs that feel great for holding with both hands.
Devise an Autumn Reading List
Just because you are moving your activities indoors, doesn't mean you need to have your noses stuck into digital devices again. If you have been enjoying summer, it can be hard to conform to the comfort of the four walls of your home again.
So, for this reason, sit down as a family and devise a reading list for each member up until Christmas. Don't make it like homework for kids. Rather, talk to them about the kind of books they would like to read and mix up story books with fun puzzle books. Add a few seasonal reads so they can get excited about upcoming holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.
Organise a special trip to the library where they can pick out a book or two.
Make The Most of the Autumn Outdoors
Of course, Autumn isn't all about spending the days indoors. In fact, this time of the year is one of the best to spend outdoors. As the seasons change, nature can put on a beautiful display of colours, whilst the smell of falling leaves, rain splashed pavements and the fresh, chilly air can be a delight to the senses.
Add to your senses by wrapping up in cosy scarves and warm hats. They can add a sense of coziness and of course Autumn is the perfect time to start knitting your own winter woolies.
Halloween is the main celebration during Autumn, think about what you would like to do during this night with friends and family. Gather together for a walk to a pumpkin farm or create a gathering for a pumpkin carving garden party. Ask those who come to bring their own home-made sweets treats.
