It's that time of the year again - Spring!
I don't know about you, but as soon as Spring rolls around,I always find myself spring cleaning. There's just something about this time of year when it's out with the old and in with the new. My workspace always needs a good spring clean as I end up collecting things over the Autumn/Winter months. I need to remove the pine cones and bring in the flowers.
Here are my tips for giving your workspace a good spring clean:
Here are my tips for giving your workspace a good spring clean:
- Keep only what you need at arms length - The only stuff in the radius of your arms should be the stuff you actually need.
- Establish limits - The issue is never space, it's too much stuff. Set a limit on the amount of stuff you will tolerate from the beginning. Brought a new book? Give one away! Filing system full? Throw some files out. The long term upkeep is just as important as your original organisation plan.
- Sort your drawer - Most people will just throw stuff in a drawer, I am guilty of this one myself. It is out of sight, out of mind. However you end up not knowing what's in there and dread opening it again. So go through it every six weeks and clear out what you don't need.
- Clean up your desktop - Your office should welcome and motivate you every morning, this includes your computer. A screen full of icons and files will trigger your stress levels. Creating a digital filing system and reducing icons will reduce the stress. This also goes for sticky notes and reminders around your screen.
