Why You Should Be Looking After Your Teeth

Why You Should Be Looking After Your Teeth | Tea And Beauty

When we think of beauty we all think make up and skincare products among other things, we don't however necessarily think about our teeth. Most people will just brush their teeth twice a day and use mouthwash, and that's great but there is more you can be doing not just to keep teeth clean but also for your health.

Brushing our teeth twice a day will help with keeping cavities, gingivitis, gum disease and bad breath at bay. Cleaning our teeth is what removes the tartar and plaque that cause cavities. Did you know tooth decay is the most common global disease? Severe gum disease cause at lease one third of adult tooth loss.

Breads and cereals are high in vitamin B, whilst fruit and vegetables are high in vitamin C, all of which contribute to having healthy gum tissue. Lean meats, fish and poultry are high in magnesium and zinc which is great for teeth.

There are many different types of toothpaste out there now but I personally use Oral B Pro Expert as it really does seem to work best for me, since using it I've had less problems with my teeth, plus it's recommended by dentists.
If my teeth are looking a little stained, which they tend to do every now and then with how much tea I drink, unfortunately caffeine, whether in tea or coffee stains teeth easily. I then use Oral B 3D White Luxe Perfection, which I have found to be one of the better whitening toothpastes out there. I notice a difference in just a few days, after 2 weeks my teeth definitely look whiter and healthier.

When it comes to mouthwash I use CB12 Mild Mouthwash* it eliminates bad breath and prevents it reoccurring by neutalising malodorous sulphur gases in our mouths. It is a lovely mild mint so it isn't strong at all, great if you aren't very keen on strong mint flavors. There is a stronger mint flavor available if you wanted though. This keeps bad breath at bay for a whole 12 hours.

Now when it comes to flossing I'll admit I'm not very good at this, I do have floss and probably do it like once or twice a week. Really you should be doing this twice daily. Flossing helps remove plaque and any left over food that is stuck between your teeth, preventing your gums from bleeding.
I have only recently found out that it is actually preferable to floss before you brush your teeth, my dentist told me this is called inter-dental cleaning. By flossing first it allows the fluoride toothpaste to have better access between the teeth, keeping them extra clean and healthy to avoid any dental diseases.

Chewing gum can help as this removes particles and cleans teeth. The chewing action will also help build your muscles up in the jaw. Sugar free chewing gum is best and it even helps stimulate saliva production, which cleans your teeth.

There are some great products out there for healthier and whiter teeth, and a healthy balanced diet will help keep keep diseases at bay. Plus don'y forget to go and visit your dentist regularly and there should be no problems.
